Protecting
valuable assets is crucial to those involved in supply chain, heavy
equipment industries and construction.
The cost associated with replacing misplaced or stolen equipment
can be a significant drain on profits. Another important consideration
is the opportunity costs associated with lost or stolen equipment.
The
combination of RFID, SmartSensors, GPS, and AVIDdirector makes the
tracking and monitoring of assets highly cost effective. Typical
ROI is less than 12 months.
How the Process Works
Equipment
traveling in the site is installed with Gen 2 RFID tags that can
be read on-site and at various locations around the site. The
RFID reader and antenna is attached to the AVIDdirector.
Each
utility vehicle used on-site contains an AVIDdirector, which has
a display unit for communication with the system. Information
or messages are passed to and from the workers via the display.
Each AVIDdirector installed in the equipment has been GPS enabled
for tracking. In addition to communicating via the monitor, messages
can be sent to any data enabled device carried by the users.
The
central AVIDdirector reviews the information gathered from the
RFID readers and determines what information is important and
should be sent to the back-end monitoring system. RFID is used
to track equipment and personnel moving in and out of the site.
AVIDdirector
is configured to make decisions and handle communications with the
server. For longer range communication, you can use as GPRS, iDen,
CDMA or Satellite.
The information gathered from the equipment, which has been securely
configured specifically for the back-end system, is carried over
the carrier's data network, through the Internet, and is accepted
by the back-end system and stored in a database.
The
back-end systems provide various reports and information configured
specifically for location monitoring and communication, which
are available to an authorized user.
Should
unscheduled equipment leave the area, alerts are sent to the appropriate
personnel.
